Chinese Bowl

As a Chinese American embroidery artist based in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area, my work is a reflection of the intersecting cultural landscapes that have shaped my identity and creative journey. Through the medium of embroidery, I explore themes of heritage, memory, and belonging, while engaging with the rich traditions of Chinese craftsmanship.

Growing up in a multicultural environment, I have always been fascinated by the interconnectedness of diverse cultural experiences. My artistic practice is deeply influenced by my Chinese heritage, which I strive to honor and reinterpret through a contemporary lens. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese embroidery techniques, I weave together intricate narratives that blend old and new, East and West.

Each stitch in my embroidery is a deliberate act of storytelling, a way to preserve and reinterpret the past. By merging traditional motifs and patterns with modern imagery, I seek to bridge the gap between generations and cultures. Through this fusion, I aim to create a visual language that speaks to the complexities of cultural identity in the contemporary world.

My artistic process is both meditative and deliberate. It involves meticulous research, sketching, and experimenting with various materials to achieve the desired textures and visual effects. The act of embroidery itself requires patience and attention to detail, as I carefully construct each piece, stitch by stitch. This labor-intensive process not only connects me to the rich lineage of Chinese embroidery, but it also allows me to delve into the nuances of my own personal narrative.

Through my artwork, I invite viewers to embark on a visual journey that transcends borders and challenges preconceived notions. By incorporating elements of my Chinese American experience, I hope to foster dialogue and a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and the complex dynamics of identity.

My goal as a Chinese American embroidery artist is to create evocative and thought-provoking artwork that celebrates the beauty of cultural exchange and emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity. Through the delicate and tactile nature of embroidery, I strive to preserve the threads that connect us all, weaving a tapestry that honors the past while embracing the present.
